If you want to get off prescription medications or NSAIDs for arthritis there are some natural arthritis remedies that you and your doctor may want to try to help control your pain and reduce arthritis flare ups. Do make sure that you discuss any and all treatments with your doctor because drug interactions are possible when trying natural remedies and alternative treatments for any ailment.

RED PEPPER – Red pepper contains capsicum which is a natural pain reliever. Capsicum causes the body to release endorphins which, as simply as possible, are your bodies own way of reducing perceptions of pain.

Capsicum (red pepper) is an active ingredient in some natural arthritis pain creams. Check with your doctor for a good over the counter capsicum arthritis cream. You’ll want to test this on your skin first. For some people the heat sensation is just too uncomfortable, but most people use this well and with use overtime the heat is better tolerated and arthritis pain is reduced naturally.

GINGER – A 2001 study using ginger as a natural arthritis remedy shows promising results. You can get the study pdf file here (http://www.zinaxin.fi/files/Zinaxin/PDF/Effects-of-a-Ginger-Extract-on-Knee-Pain-in-Patients-With-Osteoarthritis.pdf)

You can use fresh ginger in a variety of dishes or make a simple ginger tea to see if that helps the arthritis pain and inflammation. Peel ginger and slice up 5-6 slices. Boil 2 cups of hot water and steep ginger for 15 minutes. You can also sweeten this with honey. Drink daily as required for arthritis pain and swelling.

Another natural arthritis remedy you might want to try is FRESH PINEAPPLE. Pineapple contains bromelain which has been shown to help prevent inflammation.

“Bromelain, an extract from the pineapple plant, has been demonstrated to show anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and may provide a safer alternative or adjunctive treatment for osteoarthritis.” You can get more information on the study published here http://ecam.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/1/3/251

ACUPUNCTURE – You might want to visit an acupuncturist to help relieve arthritis pain naturally. I’ve had excellent results with acupuncture for gouty arthritis pain. Acupuncture works as an natural arthritis remedy in that it stimulates the muscles which then in turn release endorphins to block pain. Regardless of what type of arthritis you have acupuncture may be a very good natural arthritis remedy for you.

Aromatherapy Natural Arthritis Remedy – Pimento Essential Oil Massage
*Pimento oil should be used and tested in very low concentrations. It can irritate muscus membranes and skin.

2 tsp soy oil
2 drops wheatgerm oil
3 drops pimento oil (allspice)

Mix together and apply to affected area. massage in welll then cover with a hot compress. Apply soy oil directly to the skin afterward as it may be tender.
